Director's Message
Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh and warm greetings,
Welcome to the official website of the Institutional and Strategic Planning Centre (IPSC), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM). IPSC is the university’s strategic centre that plays a vital role in supporting holistic planning and effective governance of USM as an APEX university. The centre was established to strengthen the strategic management structure and enable the university to make data-driven and evidence-based decisions, in line with USM’s aspiration to remain outstanding on a global stage.
As the main driver of the university's strategic planning, IPSC is responsible for formulating, coordinating, and monitoring the implementation of policies and strategic directions through the integration of various data sources and performance information. Our role also includes coordinating the institutional strategic plan, data analysis and visualisation, managing rankings and benchmarking, as well as preparing strategic reports for the university’s top management. Through this integrated approach, IPSC supports the university in planning for a more sustainable and forward-looking future.
The operations of IPSC are driven by four main pillars:
-
Data Analytics and Strategy Section – focuses on the development and monitoring of strategic plans and institutional performance reports,
-
Data Management Section – provides data analytics and supports evidence-based reporting,
-
ICT Section – supports the development and maintenance of performance and ranking information systems, and
-
Risk Management and Administration Section – responsible for coordinating the implementation of institutional risk management and handling IPSC’s daily administrative matters.
As the Director of IPSC, I believe that a data-driven culture, strategic thinking, and cross-departmental collaboration are solid foundations to elevate the university’s excellence in the era of digital transformation and globalisation of higher education. This aligns with IPSC’s vision: “Transforming a Green University for the Sustainability of Tomorrow’s Higher Education” and its mission to drive the university’s excellence and competitiveness through corporatisation, innovation, smart partnerships, information integration, quality emphasis, sustainable development, and well-being in accordance with USM’s aspirations and strategic direction.
Thank you.
